BACOLOD City – A 44-year-old tricycle driver was killed in a broad daylight shooting along the national highway in Barangay Sta. Rosa, Murcia, Negros Occidental yesterday.
The victim, identified as Roger Bayotas, a resident of the village’s Purok Relocation, sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital by the attending physician.
According to Police Captain Honey Labaro, chief of the Murcia Municipal Police Station, the incident occurred Wednesday morning shortly after Bayotas had dropped off passengers at Lopez Jaena National High School.
Investigation revealed that the victim was heading home when unidentified suspects on a motorcycle began trailing him. Upon reaching the national highway, the suspects opened fire, hitting the victim multiple times.
The assailants immediately fled the scene following the attack.
Meanwhile, in a Bombo Radyo Bacolod interview with the victim’s wife, Jenebel Bayotas, she said a land dispute is believed to be the primary motive for the attack.
As of this writing, the Murcia police were conducting a follow-up operation to identify the suspects and determine the motive behind the killing./PN
