BACOLOD City — The Police Regional Office – Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) successfully concluded its comprehensive security operations for the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution on February 25, ensuring that all related activities across the Negros Island Region were conducted in a safe, orderly, and peaceful manner.
An estimated 2,850 participants joined the historic commemoration, with approximately 680 attendees in Bacolod, 2,100 in Kabankalan, and 70 in Dumaguete, according to PRO-NIR.
To ensure full security coverage, PRO-NIR strategically deployed 2,127 personnel to key areas throughout the region. Police authorities strictly enforced public safety protocols, traffic management plans, and crowd control measures.
These efforts were carried out in close coordination with local government units and partner agencies, enabling the events to proceed smoothly and without untoward incidents, the police office said.
In Bacolod City, various groups and sectors staged a protest rally at the Bacolod City Public Plaza in line with the 40th anniversary of EDSA Day. The gathering was peacefully managed, with law enforcement officers ensuring the safety of participants and the general public.
Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas C. Ibay, Regional Director of PRO-NIR, underscored the significance of the occasion, noting that the anniversary serves as a reminder that democracy thrives when citizens are able to freely and safely exercise their rights.
He emphasized that police personnel remained fully committed to securing the events, allowing participants to commemorate the historic milestone without fear or disruption.
The orderly and incident-free conclusion of the anniversary activities reaffirmed PRO-NIR’s commitment to upholding law and order while safeguarding democratic freedoms.
The successful security operation likewise highlighted the organization’s dedication to professionalism, discipline, and vigilance in protecting public safety and the constitutional right to peaceful assembly.
