ILOILO City — A 34-year-old woman was arrested yesterday morning in Barangay So-oc, Arevalo district for allegedly making a bomb joke, an act penalized under Philippine law for causing public alarm.
Alias “Kriz” was apprehended by operatives of the Iloilo City Police Station 6 at around 9:01 a.m. on March 26.
According to the Iloilo City Police Office, the arrest was carried out by virtue of a warrant issued on March 23, 2026 by the Regional Trial court in this city. The court set bail at P60,000.
Police said Kriz is facing charges for violation of Presidential Decree No. 1727, which penalizes the malicious dissemination of false information involving bomb threats. The case is also linked to provisions under the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
Investigators did not immediately disclose details on how the alleged bomb joke was made, but authorities emphasized that such incidents can trigger panic and disrupt public safety.
The suspect is currently under police custody pending further legal proceedings.
Police Colonel Wilbert B. Parilla, ICPO director, said they will pursue similar cases to deter others.
“Let this serve as a reminder that irresponsible actions have serious consequences. The ICPO does not tolerate any act that may cause panic or alarm in the community,” Parilla said./PN
