BACOLOD City — Thousands of commuters are expected to benefit from a fare reduction this Holy Week as the Yanson Group of Bus Companies (YGBC) rolls out a 10% discount across its nationwide operations.
The discount will apply on Good Friday, Black Saturday, and Easter Sunday, covering all affiliated Ceres bus lines operating in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
The company said the initiative forms part of its corporate social responsibility efforts and supports the call for unity under the bayanihan spirit promoted by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during the Lenten season.
YGBC President and Chief Executive Officer Leo Rey V. Yanson said the fare discount aims to ease the financial burden on travelers, particularly those returning to their home provinces to observe Holy Week with their families.
“This is one way of supporting the government’s efforts to ensure that our countrymen can spend a meaningful Holy Week with their loved ones,” Yanson said.
The program is also supported by company leaders Olivia V. Yanson and Ginnette Y. Dumancas as part of a broader effort to promote compassion and generosity during religious observance.
Participating bus companies under the Yanson Group include Vallacar Transit Inc., Bachelor Express Inc., Rural Transit Mindanao Inc., Mindanao Star Bus Transport Inc., Love Transport Express Mindanao Inc., Southern Star Bus Transit Inc., Sugbo Urban Transit Inc., Love Visayas Transport Express Inc., Goldstar Bus Transit Inc., and Ceres Transport Inc.
The transport group noted that the initiative comes amid global uncertainties, particularly ongoing tensions in the Middle East that continue to affect fuel prices.
By offering discounted fares, the company hopes to cushion the impact of rising transport costs on ordinary commuters.
Beyond financial relief, YGBC expressed hope that the move would reinforce the Filipino spirit of bayanihan—encouraging solidarity, generosity, and shared responsibility during one of the country’s most significant religious observances.
