ILOILO City — A total of 94 firearms have been accounted for across Western Visayas during a series of intensified operations from April 6 to 12.
Data from the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) showed that during the weeklong period, various police units conducted a total of nine operations that led to the arrest of 10 suspects and the direct confiscation of nine firearms.
An additional 31 firearms were deposited with authorities for safekeeping, while 54 more were surrendered by individuals as part of the region’s campaign against undocumented weapons.
Meanwhile, 10 explosives were voluntarily surrendered to local authorities.
Police Brigadier General Josefino Ligan, PRO-6 director, emphasized that the high volume of surrendered units serves as a clear indicator of effective community engagement and a successful information campaign. He noted that the growing participation of the public in depositing or surrendering firearms is a crucial step in preventing violence and maintaining safety within local neighborhoods.
Ligan has since directed all station chiefs to sustain the momentum of their operations against loose firearms in their respective areas of assignment.
