CAPIZ — Vibrant costumes and colorful props took center stage during the Maragtas of Capisnon Cultural Performances (Dance Drama) held at the Pueblo de Panay TechnoPark in Roxas City on April 18, 2026.
The cultural showcase served as a powerful expression of Capiz’s identity, highlighting the province’s rich heritage through music, dance, and storytelling.
One of the major highlights of the Capiztahan Festival, the Maragtas presentation commemorates the anniversary of the establishment of the province’s civil government. It offers a grand retelling of Capisnon history—from early inhabitants to the Spanish period—bringing the past to life through creative performance.
The term “Maragtas,” which refers to people, reflects the narrative of Panay Island and its cultural evolution across generations.
This year’s performances revolved around the theme “Capisnon Cuisine,” with 17 participating local government units (LGUs) showcasing the province’s rich culinary heritage.
Organizers emphasized that cuisine goes beyond sustenance, serving as a vital element of cultural identity and tradition. Through dance and drama, each LGU presented traditional recipes, cooking practices, and the stories behind well-loved local dishes.
The performances illustrated how food plays a central role in community life, symbolizing shared history, celebrations, and daily living among Capisnons.
The activity continues to strengthen appreciation for local culture and history, as municipalities bring to life stories rooted in their heritage and communal experiences.
Capiztahan was recognized as the Best Cultural Festival (Provincial Category) at last year’s Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) Pearl Awards.
The recognition highlights the continued efforts of the Provincial Government of Capiz, led by Gov. Fredenil H. Castro, to preserve and promote the province’s vibrant traditions and identity through programs that celebrate local history and way of life.
