AIKO MELENDEZ and Onemig Bondoc are still going strong, though the actress-politician pointed out that the topic of marriage should be directed toward Bondoc instead.

“That should come from Onemig, not me,” Melendez said in response to a question about taking their relationship to the next level, as she entertained questions from reporters on how she and Bondoc are doing, and supporting her daughter, Marthena Jickain, who signed with Star Worx.

The “Wildflower” star was asked again directly about whether she sees herself saying “I do” to Bondoc in the future.

“Ask him. Ang panget kapag sa’kin manggagaling,” she replied, opting not to answer the question.

Noting how Bondoc has been a positive influence in her life, Melendez said the former matinee idol was the reason why she decided to get back into songwriting. She also shared that the song “Endgame Ko” is based on their romance.

Gaya ng kantang ginawa ko para sa kanya, siya ang endgame ko. Kay Onemig ko lang na-practice [ang songwriting skills] ko. Marami akong nasulat na kanta pero ‘yung creative juices ko, hindi ko ma-practice. Sa kanya lang,” she said.

Melendez also admitted that there are advantages and disadvantages to her romance with Bondoc, referring to his past showbiz background.

“Advantage, meaning mas naintindihan niya ang trabaho, ang disadvantage, siyempre minsan, ang daming intriga na mas pinupukol,” she said

Melendez and Bondoc confirmed that they’re in a relationship last February, months after staying coy about whether they got together.

Before dating, both of them were close friends, though sparks had long been evident between them. (Hannah Mallorca © Philippine Daily Inquirer)
