BACOLOD City — Airport security personnel intercepted a 25-year-old traveler after he was found in possession of alleged drug paraphernalia during a routine screening at the Bacolod–Silay Airport early yesterday morning, May 11.
According to Police Major Manuel Refuerzo, officer-in-charge of the Bacolod-Silay Airport police, Isagani Ortula, a resident of Barangay Bagtik, Silay City, Negros Occidental, was flagged during a walk-through scanner inspection at approximately 6 a.m.
Upon further inspection of his belongings, authorities discovered the alleged drug paraphernalia concealed inside a chewing gum container.
Refuerzo said the suspect was reportedly en route to Manila to return to work after spending time in Silay City to celebrate his child’s birthday.
The suspect is currently under the custody of the airport police. Authorities are in the process of preparing appropriate charges for filing in court, specifically for violations of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
As of press time, investigations were ongoing to determine if the suspect is linked to any wider drug-related activities or distribution networks. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
