3 nabbed for illegal cockfighting in Tubungan

ILOILO City – Three individuals were arrested for alleged illegal cockfighting on Saturday afternoon, May 16, in Barangay Igpaho, Tubungan, Iloilo.

Police identified the suspects under the aliases “Jojo” and “Rocky,” both residents of Tubungan, and “Jem,” a resident of Antique. All three are currently detained at the Tubungan Municipal Police Station.

According to a police report, the suspects were caught in the act by responding police personnel at around 3:30 p.m.

Recovered from the scene were three gamecocks and P2,000 in bet money. The suspects will face charges for violating Presidential Decree 449, also known as the Cockfighting Law of 1974.

Meanwhile, Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) director Colonel Bayani Razalan stated that the apprehension was a direct result of their relentless campaign against all forms of illegal gambling.

Razalan recently reiterated his directive to all municipal police chiefs across the province to intensify operations against illegal gambling activities.

“We have intensified our campaign against illegal gambling, and our police chiefs are actively responding to our call,” Razalan said./PN
