ILOILO City — The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) successfully accounted for 29 unlicensed firearms and seven explosives during a two-day intensified region-wide campaign across Western Visayas.
Data from PRO-6 revealed that police units recovered 13 firearms on June 12 and another 16 on June 13.
Of the 29 firearms, 25 were voluntarily surrendered by their owners, two were deposited for safekeeping pending registration renewals, and two were seized during police operations. Additionally, seven explosive devices were turned over to local authorities.
PRO-6 director, Police Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño, said these accomplishments are vital in preventing firearm-related violence and strengthening overall public safety in the region.
Tuaño urged gun holders with expired licenses or unregistered firearms to surrender or deposit their weapons at the nearest police station to avoid facing law enforcement operations.
“The accounting of these firearms and explosives reflects the sustained efforts of PRO-6 to prevent their possible use in crimes, violence, and other unlawful activities,” stated Tuaño. “We also recognize the cooperation of responsible firearm owners and community members who continue to support our campaign for a safer place through a responsive, trusted, and transformative PRO-6.”/PN
