ILOILO City – To improve traffic flow and ensure faster emergency response across Iloilo City, local officials plan to expand enforcement operations against illegal parking.
The Traffic and Transportation Management Office (TTMO) clamped 871 illegally parked vehicles from January to May 2026.
TTMO head Uldarico Garbanzos said the number reflects the office’s sustained daily operations targeting road obstructions in priority areas and barangays where illegal parking is frequently reported.
“Our clamping operations are conducted every day, especially in areas that we prioritize and in barangays where illegal parking is frequently reported,” Garbanzos said.
Illegally parked vehicles hamper traffic and could delay emergency responders.
“That is why we continue to remind motorists not to park in places that are not designated parking areas. We also coordinate with barangays because illegal parking should not be allowed, especially if emergency vehicles need to pass,” Garbanzos said.
To strengthen enforcement, the city is planning to acquire additional wheel clamps on top of the approximately 150 devices currently in use.
“We already have around 150 clamping devices, and we are planning to add more,” he said.
Garbanzos also said the TTMO intends to divide its enforcement personnel into two operational clusters once more logistical assets become available.
“We are looking at organizing our operations into two clusters once we receive additional move assets. This will allow us to cover more areas and respond more efficiently,” Garbanzos explained.
He said the expansion would further strengthen traffic management, particularly in areas where roadside parking continues to impede mobility and public safety./PN
