BACOLOD City — A Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) officer assigned to the Victorias City Jail was killed after the motorcycle he was driving collided with another motorcycle along the national highway in Barangay Alicante, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental, on July 3.
Police identified the fatality only by the alias “Jonathan,” 32, a resident of Barangay Zone 1, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.
His back rider, identified by the alias “Ron,” 29, of Barangay 13, Victorias City, sustained injuries and was rushed to Kaayong Lawas Medical Center in Victorias City for treatment.
The other rider, identified by the alias “Matthew,” 25, a salesboy and resident of Barangay 4, Victorias City, also sustained injuries.
Initial police investigation showed that the crash occurred at around 9:40 p.m. along the national highway near Simag in Barangay Alicante.
Authorities said the Honda XRM 125 driven by “Matthew” was traveling northbound from Barangay Alicante toward Barangay Passi while occupying the inner lane of the highway. Upon reaching the area, it collided with a Royal Enfield 450 motorcycle driven by the BJMP officer, which was also traveling northbound on the outer lane.
The impact heavily damaged both motorcycles and injured all three occupants.
The victims were immediately brought to Kaayong Lawas Medical Center, where the BJMP officer was pronounced dead by the attending physician at about 10:10 p.m.
Police have yet to determine the exact cause of the collision as the investigation remains ongoing.
The two motorcycles were taken to the E.B. Magalona Municipal Police Station for proper disposition and further investigation./PN
