CAPIZ – The Provincial Government of Capiz distributed five fiberglass boats and 40 gill nets to fishermen in Barangay Balogo, Pilar, on July 15 as part of its efforts to improve the livelihood of local fishing communities.
The distribution was led by Gov. Fredenil H. Castro in partnership with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)-Capiz under the supervision of Provincial Fisheries Officer Alvin Beltran.
The equipment will benefit selected fishermen from various barangays in Pilar by increasing their fishing capacity and helping them sustain their livelihood. The initiative also aims to promote responsible fishing practices and strengthen efforts against illegal fishing.
Castro said the provincial government remains committed to supporting the fishing sector through programs that enhance productivity and improve the economic condition of fisherfolk.
“Our goal is to improve the livelihoods of our fishermen and increase the overall production of the fishing sector,” Castro said.
He added that the distribution of boats and fishing nets would help ensure the financial stability of fisherfolk, particularly during periods of severe weather, economic difficulties, and other disruptions that affect their primary source of income.
The equipment is also expected to help fishermen maintain their livelihood during lean fishing seasons by improving their operational capacity.
Castro likewise urged the beneficiaries to protect the province’s marine resources by adopting responsible and sustainable fishing practices to ensure that future generations will continue to benefit from the area’s fisheries.
The activity was attended by provincial and municipal officials, as well as representatives from BFAR and other government agencies, underscoring the provincial government’s commitment to strengthening the local fishing industry through collaboration and sustainable development./PN
