Aspiring singer shot to death

ILOILO City – Hoping for a break in the music industry, a 38-year-old man had been doing gigs in various bars and restaurants here for years.

Little did Archiel Gandecila know that Saturday was his last day to sing.

While on his way home around 4:15 a.m. from a singing engagement, an unidentified man shot Gandecila to death in Barangay Ortiz, City Proper.

As of press time last night, Police Precinct 1 remained clueless on the killer’s identity.

Gandecila succumbed to two gunshot wounds on his head and chest.

The closed circuit television cameras set up by the barangay council of Ortiz in various nooks of the village managed to record the crime but they failed to clearly capture the assassin’s face.

“The footages were too blurry,” said Chief Insp. Alxander Rosales, Police Precinct 1 chief.

The killer was wearing a white shirt and a pair of white shorts. He left casually after shooting Gandecila and later boarded a trisikad.

The trisikad was driven by a man wearing nothing but a pair of shorts. His face, too, was not captured clearly by the security cameras.

Six empty shells of a .22 revolver were recovered from the crime scene.

“The killing was really planned. As the security cameras showed, the suspect was already waiting for Gandecila in the area,” Rosales added.

Lately, Gandecila was a fixture at a bar/restaurant on Delgado Street, City Proper.

“We don’t have a motive yet, perhaps personal grudges or work-related,” Rosales said./PN
