BACOLOD City – City Legal Officer Joselito Bayatan assured that the city government will pay its electricity bills. When? Bayatan cannot answer.
The city government and the Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) should meet to settle this matter, he said.
Bacolod City owes CenecoP271,892,324.06 in unpaid bills.
Bayatanrecommended an “offsetting” of payment.
Cenecomust also pay the city government real property and franchise taxes. It has not paid any since it started operating, he stressed.
Bayatan said he heard Ceneco general manager Sulpicio Lagarde Jr.saying over the radio Ceneco owes the city government up to P50 million in real property taxes alone.
Lagarde appealed to Mayor Evelio Leonardia to settle city hall’s monthly bills averaging P6,663,010.80.
Cenecois drawing up a “mutually acceptable settlement plan” for the city government’s past financial obligations, Lagarde said./PN
