BACOLOD City – The supposed mass oath-taking of new Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakasng Bayan (PDP-Laban) members in Negros Occidental on Sept. 17 has been rescheduled to Oct. 1.
United Negros Alliance (UNegA) secretaryAngel Verdeflor said Yves Akol,PDP-Laban secretary-general for Negros Island Region, informed him two days ago that the oath-taking has been postponed.
House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarezrequested the postponement because he will not be around on Sept. 17 but wants to personally swear in Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr., Verdeflor said.
Alvarez, a friend of Marañon, was the one who invited the governor to join the ruling party, said Verdeflor.
The UNegA secretary said he has yet to inform Marañon, also the local party’s leader.
Verdeflor said the postponement of the oath-taking will give others who want to join the party time to submit applications.
Akolconfirmed that Alvarez requested the postponement.
President Rodrigo Duterte, the party leader, has not yet confirmed his attendance, said Akol.
Akol hopes all new PDP-Laban members from Negros Occidental — whether they are from UNegA or Love Negros — will take oath at the same time.
