MANILA – The Philippine Air Force Lady Jet Spikers begins its campaign in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Reinforced Conference against the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses tonight at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
The Lady Jet Spikers-Golden Tigresses match is set for 6 p.m., after the opening match between the revamped Laoag Power Smashers and the Philippine Coast Guard Lady Dolphins at 4 p.m.
After letting a golden opportunity to bag a title slip past, the Lady Jet Spikers, which will once again parade an intact veteran lineup, is considered one of the title-favorites in the third conference.
The Lady Jet Spikers almost claimed a crown after winning the best-of-three series opener against Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors but the latter found a way to crawl back and win the next two games.
The Golden Tigresses, which opted not to enlist a reinforcement, will be aiming to have a better performance this tourney after a sub-par showing in the Collegiate Conference.
Meanwhile, the Golden Tigresses, which will have Ennajie Laure and Cherry Rondina back on its lineup, will be using the tournament to build up for the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament early next year.
In the first game, the Power Smasher, which was boosted by the acquisition of Gretchel Soltones, Jorelle Singh and Aiko Urdas, is heavily-favored against the Lady Dolphins.
Eight teams will vie for the title vacated by the PLDT Home Ultera after skipping the tournament. The import-laden conference allows each squad to field two local or foreign imports.
Also seeing action in the season-ending tournament are the Lady Warriors, the Bureau of Customs Transformers, the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons and Bali Pure Water Defenders./PN
