KALIBO, Aklan – Beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) of Kalibo recently underwent a briefing from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) on the ill-effects of calamities to agricultural crops and how to mitigate these.
The briefing was a component of the skills training, which was discussed by Alan Francisco of MDRRMO-Kalibo and Tatsuya Hada, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Taken up were topics on:
* Gender and Climate Change
* Aklan Local Flood and Early Warning System (ALFEWS)
* Vulnerability Capacity Assessment
* Field Evaluation and Assessment
* Mapping: Vulnerabilities, Resources, Capacities, Threats and Hazards
* Introduction to Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Planning
* Introduction to Evacuation Camp Management Organization, and
* Camp Management Process.
Ezra Munoz, Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) coordinator, said the 4Ps beneficiaries were taught on DRR and climate change so they will understand the bad effects of climate change on crops and how they could best prepare for this.
Munoz also encouraged the participants to ask questions in order to implement the learnings fully.
Munoz also said the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the SLP aspire that by 2030, 4Ps beneficiaries are no longer aided but rather, they are already the ones earning and extending help to others. (PIA-Aklan/PN)
