SIPALAY CITY, Negros Occidental – The Department of Health will provide the Merceditas J. Montilla District Hospital here medical equipment worth P76 million.
Assistant Secretary Eric Tayag on Wednesday gave Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. a list of the equipment the agency will purchase for the hospital.
Marañon said capitol no longer have to buy the hospital’s needed equipment except for the decompression chamber.
Inaugurated on Wednesday, the P125-million, 75-bed medical facility was put up on a 2-hectare prime lot donated by Merceditas Javellana Montilla in Barangay Canturay.
Marañon said the hospital will cater to patients from not only Cauayan, Hinoba-an, Ilog, and Candoni towns and Kabankalan and Sipalay cities in Negros Occidental (CHICKS area) but also the neighboring towns in Negros Oriental.
The eponymous lot donor thanked those who built the hospital. She said the CHICKS area had “long been forgotten.”
“We had a lot of governors, who had been in and out, but nobody thought of southern Negros, only Governor Marañon,” said Montilla.
She called on the hospital staff to be “kind and compassionate” to sick people./PN
