KALIBO, Aklan – Muslim leaders, police officers, soldiers, and the Aklan provincial government have vowed to unite against illegal drugs and terrorism.
They signed a covenant to help each other fight homegrown terrorism and drugs, two issues that are major concerns of the Armed Forces.
“It is high time to end the long and troublesome effect of terrorism and illegal drugs in the province of Aklan,” part of the covenant stated.
“It is best to confront and prevent the proliferation of terrorism and illegal drugs down to the barangays,” it said.
Major General Harold Cabreros, Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division commander, led the covenant signing on Nov. 8 at Camp Major Jesus Jizmundo in Barangay Libas, Banga.
Leaders of the Boracay Muslim Association, Aklan Islamic Jama-ah, Inc., Kalibo Islamic Jama-ah, Inc., United Federation of Muslim Association of Western Visayas, and Noor Allah Village in Barangay Camanci, Numancia also committed to ending terrorism and drugs.
Senior Superintendent John Mitchell Jamili, provincial police director; 12th Infantry Battalion (12IB) commander Lieutenant Colonel Leomar Jose Doctolero; Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Nemesio Neron; Chief Inspector Terence Paul Sta. Ana, Kalibo police chief; Chief Inspector Mark Evan Salvo, Malay police chief; and Senior Inspector Keenan Ruiz, Numancia police chief, were present at the signing, too.
Muslim leaders from as far as Antique and Iloilo provinces supported the activity, said Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Tumnog, 12IB executive officer.
