BACOLOD City – Several families of deceased barangay tanods, officials and employees yesterday received P985,001 worth of insurance claims from the Negros Occidental provincial government.
Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. handed the checks to the beneficiaries, who were accompanied by their respective barangay captains.
The recipients were the families of Elena Bulado, Bonifacio Arellano and Armando Manolong of Salvador Benedicto; Eduardo Lariosa of Calatrava; Margarito Soniega of Sagay City; Gerald Sajo and Ninfa Jacomilla of EB Magalona; Renato Palermo and Raymund Santos of Silay City; Mansueto Pascual of Talisay City; Jesus Molase Jr. and Gimel Sioting of Murcia; Hencil Maldon and Ricardo Velasco Jr. of Bago City;
Giovanie Delos Santos of Pulupandan; Jessie Demerin of La Carlota City; Samuel Trafanco Sr. of Pontevedra; Wilfredo Alojamento and Benito Bernardez of Binalbagan; Carlos Selebio of Himamaylan City; and Julius Obregon of Hinobaan.
The turnover was held at the provincial capitol’s Social Hall.
Marañon said the insurance program began in 2002 only for tanods but started covering barangay officials and employees in 2008.
“This is ongoing every other two months kon may magkalamatay,” he said.
The insurance program is under the Special Programs and Concerns Division of the Provincial Administrator’s Office./PN
