BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. called on public officials who are using drugs to stop.
“It’s not good for you,” said Marañon. “Surrender na kag magpa-rehab.”
A municipal councilor in La Castellana on Nov. 9 showed up at the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office.
Alberto “White” Nicor III was among the drug personalities the police were monitoring, said Senior Superintendent William Señoron, provincial police director.
Nicor wanted to clear his name, so he turned himself in to the police, Señoron said.
Señoron said Nicor admitted being a drug user a long time ago but had stopped to set a good example to his constituents and fellow public officials.
“Very good nga nag-surrender sia,” Marañon said.
By admitting, “you are already solving 90 percent of the problem,” said the governor.
Marañon also hopes all the “high-value targets” in the Negros Island Region police’s antidrug campaign get caught./PN
