ILOILO City – More police officers were detailed in Boracay Island to secure tourists this holiday season.
Forty-five officers from the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) were sent to the island resort last week to reinforce the Boracay Tourist Assistance Center (BTAC).
“We expect more foreign and local tourists to take their vacation in Boracay so we need to bolster our police force,” said Chief Superintendent Jose Gentiles, PRO-6 director.
Gentiles said they would send to Boracay additional officers from the Regional Public Safety Battalion within the month.
Special Weapons and Tactics teams will also help plainclothes officers in monitoring criminals.
With reinforcement from the regional headquarters, the PRO-6 will have enough officers to secure the island, said BTAC chief Senior Inspector Jess Baylon.
More than 200 officers have been deployed for visibility, Baylon said.
Soldiers and the Maritime Command are also helping the BTAC’s security operations, he said./PN
