ILOILO City – Business rivalry could be a possible motive in the killing of a retired bank security guard on Sunday in Barangay Buray, Oton, Iloilo.
The 64-year-old Antonio “Tony” Borbon Sr. of Compania Street, Molo district went into the business of lending money right after his retirement, said Senior Inspector Alejandro Apostol, Oton police chief.
The killing appeared to have been planned, added Apostol, “kay gin sundan gid siya.”
“Daw business rivalry gid, based sa aton initial investigation, but we are still investigating,” he said.
Police Officer 2 Argie Salafraña, Oton police station investigator, announced yesterday they have identified one of the two suspects in Borbon’s shooting.
They also recovered the motorcycle that two gunmen used in fleeing.
“It was abandoned in front of Arevalo Elementary School in Barangay San Jose, Arevalo” said Salafraña.
The motorcycle was painted green and white.
On Nov. 20 around 9:45 a.m., Borbon was shot on the head and an arm at Florvel Subdivision, Barangay Buray. He died while being rushed to The Medical City.
A .45 pistol was used on Borbon.
Salafraña said declined to give details about their suspect so as not to jeopardize the ongoing manhunt.
From what the police gathered from witnesses, the man who shot Borbon was wearing a green jacket. He ran to a waiting motorcycle after the shooting. The motorcycle was driven by a man wearing a black jacket.
“We are coordinating with the Land Transportation Office to know who owned the motorcycle,” Salafraña said.
The two men boarded a taxi going to Molo after abandoning the motorcycle in Arevalo, he added.
“Gin pamangkot ta ang taxi driver kun diin gin dul-ong. Nag pamangkot man kita sa mga tawo didto sa Molo (kag) may nakakilala sa iya,” said Salafraña of the suspect./PN
