ILOILO City – Personnel of the City Administrative and Administrator’s offices at city hall were subjected to unannounced random drug testing yesterday.
City Administrator Hernando Galvez said 16 employees – composed of six regular employees and 10 job hires – out of 40 employees in the said offices were tested.
Galvez himself drew the names of those who would undergo drug testing.
“Random lang ini. Ang 16 representative na sang bilog nga empleyado diri nga opisina,” Galvez said.
He, however, clarified that more unannounced tests will be conducted.
“Kay illegal man sa kasuguan kun ubuson gid sila tanan pa-drug test,” Galvez explained.
Results will be announced soon, he said. No specific date was given.
The city government shouldered the drug testing expenses.
“We are warning to our employees. Anytime of the day we will conduct drug testing. Once you are called to undergo drug testing and you refuse or fail to take it, such constitutes an administrative offense,” said Galvez.
The contracts of casuals or job hires who fail the test will not be renewed, he added.
The City Administrative and Administrator’s offices drug tests were the second of such test among city hall employees. Two weeks ago, 27 personnel under the City Assessor’s Office were tested. All passed the test.
Galvez said the drug test is part of the Mabilog administration’s moves to ensure a drug-free city hall.
The city government has around 2,000 regular employees and not less than 1,500 job hires./PN
