ILOILO City – Two months since it opened, the city government’s “sundown clinic” has attracted only 145 clients who had themselves tested for various sexually transmitted infections (STI).
“More (clients) pa gid tani. Nami kun mas aware ang tawo about the sundown clinic,” said Ma. Odeta Villaruel, coordinator of the City Health Office’s (CHO) program on STI and HIV-AIDS (Human Immunodeficiency Virus – Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome).
The CHO oversees the operation of the sundown clinic “5/11 (Singko Onse) Klinika Ilonggo” in Barangay Tanza, City Proper.
The clinic opened on Oct. 3. It is designed for those who wanted themselves tested for STI and HIV-AIDS.
Target clients are men having sex with men, transgenders and women with risky sexual behavior.
The sundown clinic is open from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Monday to Friday. Its services include:
* Gram Stain of vaginal, cervical, urethral, anal and throat discharges
* Wet Mount
* Syphilis Screening Test (RPR or Rapid Plasma Test)
* Syphilis Confirmatory Test (TPHA or Treponema Pallidum Hemo-Agglutination)
* Syphilis Quantitative (Titer)
* Clinic-based HIB Antibody Test
* Mobile Voluntary Counseling and Testing for HIV.
Of the 145 clinic clients, two were positive for syphilis, eight for gonorrhea, 10 for non-gonococcal infection and one for candidiasis.
