ILOILO City – The Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) has a new commander.
At the 3ID headquarters in Jamindan, Capiz Major General Jon Aying – a native of Sara, Iloilo – formally assumed his new post vice Major General Harold Cabreros.
Cabreros completed his two-year tour of duty at the 3ID, focusing on the insurgency problem in Panay and Negros Islands.
Aying and Cabreros were classmates at the Philippine Military Academy (Class 1984).
Sources told Panay News Cabreros is up for promotion.
Aying vowed to continue the projects and programs of Cabreros and appealed for the cooperation of the community and soldiers.
Cabreros, on the other hand, thanked the 3ID soldiers and the Ilonggos for supporting him.
The turnover of command was held on Nov. 24 at the 3ID headquarters.
Aying was formerly the commander of the 303rd Infantry Brigade in Negros Island. He was the proponent of the Army’s “wellness farm” to capacitated former rebels. The ex-rebels are taught organic farming and other means of livelihood to ensure sustainable sources of income when they reintegrate with the community.
Through this project, Aying received compliments from organic farmers and other agricultural advocates and also numerous awards both from the military and civilian sectors.
Aying also served as Assistant Chief of Staff for Plans and Programs of the Armed Forces of the Philippines./PN
