BACOLOD City – A major renovation of the Negros Occidental Capitol Park and Lagoon will start Saturday, Dec. 3.
Ayala Land, Inc. will handle the P25-million initiative that was part of its P6-billion Capitol Central Project, Provincial Administrator Leonardo Eusebio revealed.
“The plan is now with Ayala Land. They already have an architect for the project,” Eusebio said.
Among others, the concrete paths will be converted into cobbled walks, according to the provincial administrator.
“In the revised design, there will be no more fences but hedges and tree-lined paths, like the one in Glorietta, Makati City where there is a garden,” said Eusebio.
Famous landmarks, including the soldier’s monument, the two carabao statues, and the steel sculpture on the east side, will not be touched.
“The children’s playground will be improved,” Eusebio said. “[We hope] they also change the equipment to make the place safer for children.”
Capitol got rid of dilapidated playground facilities to avoid the accident that killed a 10-year-old girl in Himamaylan City two weeks ago.
Lights will be changed, too, while the lagoon will be filled with koi and carp.
At the lagoon area, there will be new perimeter hedges, repaved walkways and new platforms for fish feeding, an additional leisure activity for strollers.
“I have asked the Public Information Office to document the development so we could have a ‘before and after’ presentation,” Eusebio said.
Renovation work was supposed to start Nov. 29 but got delayed.
“I requested them (Ayala) to coordinate with the Provincial Engineer’s Office and Negros Occidental Historical Foundation,” said Eusebio./PN
