MANILA – Sen. Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV expressed doubt toward the testimony of alleged Eastern Visayas drug lord Kerwin Espinosa against Sen. Leila de Lima.
“Sa affidavit mo namili ka ng ilalaglag mo – sino po-proteksyunan mo (at) sino ilalaglag mo,” Trillanes said during the Senate investigation in the killing of Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. on Monday.
Kerwin claimed he met de Lima in Baguio City on Nov. 19, 2015 to deliver the protection money, through her former driver and bodyguard Ronnie Dayan, for her senatorial campaign.
Dayan, on the other hand, said he received the money from the drug suspect on Nov. 22, 2014.
But, Trillanes said that de Lima already resigned as secretary of the Department of Justice by that time.
The photo between de Lima and Kerwin with his wife in Baguio City, which has gone viral, does not mean they know each other on a personal level, the senator furthered.
Politicians, he added, are always flocked with people asking for a photo.
“Kung totoo man ito at magkikita tayo sa isang lugar, hindi ka magpapa-picture sa isang drug lord,” Trillanes explained.
Meanwhile, Trillanes raised doubts about the sincerity of Duterte’s drug war because the others allegedly involved in illegal drug activities have not been arrested.
Dir. Gen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa of the Philippine National Police maintained that they are committed to the anti-drug initiatives of the Duterte administration.
“‘Yung war on drugs po natin totohanan, po ito. Walang pinipili. Walang kinikilingan,” dela Rosa said.
The official also said that the “biggest drug lords” in the country are in the New Bilibid Prison.
The police force, he added, was also looking for suspected drug lord Peter Lim, alleged supplier of Espinosa./PN
