ROXAS City – An inter-municipal giant lantern (parol) contest in Capiz is ongoing. The catch: recycled and indigenous materials must be used.
The municipalities of Cuartero, Dao, Dumalag, Ivisan, Maayon, Panitan, Pontevedra, President Roxas, Sapian, and Sigma are participating.
The contest at Robinsons Place Roxas in coordination with the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office showcases the creativity of the Capizeños in recycling and use of indigenous materials in creating giant lanterns.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Dec. 1. Speaking on behalf of Gov. Antonio del Rosario, Executive Assistant Suzanne del Rosario said the celebration of Christmas “is bright, peaceful, and full of tradition and glee.”
The parol contest ends on Dec. 24.
In more Christmas-related news, the governor led the ceremonial switching on of Christmas lights and Christmas tree at the Provincial Capitol on Dec. 5.
Facing the capitol was a 20-foot tall Christmas tree with different lights and decorations.
Adding to the spectacle of lights were the Christmas lanterns and mini-Christmas trees placed on the front portion of the capitol. (Capiz Aksyon News Center/PN)
