ILOILO City – A former village watchman was arrested yesterday. His house in Barangay Calao, Dumangas, Iloilo was raided for illegal firearms and ammunitions.
Fernando Dilag was taken to the lock-up cell of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Region 6.
CIDG staged the raid around 6 a.m. It received reports of constant illegal discharges of firearms at Dilag’s house.
Raiders recovered the following from the house: a homemade M16 rifle, three ammunitions of an M16, four ammunitions of a 12-gauge shotgun, two ammunitions of a .38 revolver, 10 empty bullet shells of a .9mm pistol, and a gun box.
CIDG operatives learned of Dilag from a friend of a man (Ryan Catanyag) they arrested also in Barangay Calao just this Dec. 16 for illegal gun possession.
Dilag admitted owning the gun and ammunitions that the CIDG recovered, according to Chief Inspector Rene Obregon, Dumangas police chief.
Dilag faces a charge for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Meanwhile, CIDG recovered from Catanyag’s house Friday last week a 12-gauge shotgun with 12 ammunitions, .38 revolver with five ammunitions, .45 pistol with 22 ammunitions, a .9mm pistol with 47 ammunitions, three holsters, and a pouch.
Catanyag failed to present pertinent papers to support his legal ownership of the firearms and ammunitions, said Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, CIDG chief.
“Our initial investigation showed that some of these firearms were merely pawned to him. We have yet to identify the real owners of the guns,” Tayaba said./PN
