ILOILO City – A gunman shot to death a 34-year-old female Indian money lender at a car accessories shop on Jalandoni Street, Barangay Our Lady of Fatima, Jaro district around 3 p.m. yesterday.
After the shooting, the assassin casually walked out of the shop toward a motorcycle-driving companion waiting nearby.
The victim, Rupinder Kaur Chahal of L.J. Ledesma Subdivision, Barangay Buhang, Jaro, died while being rushed to the West Visayas Sate University Medical Center. She had four gunshot wounds.
The gunman was wearing a dark cap, a staff of Street Circuit Car Audio and Accessories shop told Panay News.
“I was installing a sticker on the rear of a car. The victim was standing next to me. A man suddenly came in, draw his gun and shot her,” said the witness who asked not to be named, citing security concerns.
There were three bursts of gunfire, he added.
“Pagbaril, tumakbo ako. Sumunod pa siya (Chahal) sa akin pero sinalubong ng suspect ‘yung biktima sa harapan ng kotse at pinaputukan pa ng isang beses. Doon na siya (Chahal) bumulagta,” the witness, a Manileño, further said.
He described the killer as dark-skinned and around 5 feet and 8 inches tall.
The assassin appeared “professional”, said Police Officer 2 Saturnino Dela Cruz, investigator of the Jaro police station.
“Ginsulod niya gid kag gintiro. Tapos naggwa siya nga daw wala lang natabo,” said Dela Cruz.
The riding-in-tandem killers fled towards Jaro Plaza, he added.
As of this writing, Jaro policemen were conducting a hot pursuit operation.
They were not discounting the possibility that the shooting was related to the Indian national’s money lending business./PN
