ILOILO – The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) denied the reported tension among their personnel at the Iloilo District Jail (IDJ) in Pototan town.
A radio report said CIDG operatives tried to get into the IDJ in Barangay Nanga in search for drug suspect Jesus “Jing-jing” Espinosa Jr. but BJMP jail guards prevented them.
The alleged incident resulted in a near shootout, the report said, citing a text message.
That was not true, stressed Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, CIDG regional director.
“There is no truth to that report. We never went there. Why would we? We don’t have business there,” he said.
It was not immediately clear in the radio report when the alleged encounter happened.
Senior Inspector Jimmy Britanico, BJMP community relations service officer, also denied the allegedly encounter.
“I spoke with our personnel and the warden. They told us the CIDG never went there,” he said.
Espinosa surrendered to the police in October. Citing the death threats he had been receiving, he said he would be safer in detention. But later he said he still worries about his safety in the district jail./PN
