MANILA – Despite facing tough opponents, Filipina swimmer Kyla Soguilon mounted an impressive run in the international arena as she bagged a total of seven medals in the 2016 Hamilton Aquatics Winter Long Course Swimming Championship in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The Kalibo, Aklan-native Soguilon, who was recently crowned the Most Outstanding Swimmer in the 12-and-under division, captured one gold, five silver and one bronze medals in the two-day swim fest.
Soguilon finished first in the 12-and-over 100 meter freestyle event with her 1:05.37 clocking. She was followed by Liyana Fathima Nizar (1:07.96) and Radina Bozukova (1:09.49).
The 12-year-old Soguilon also bagged five silver medals in the 12-and-over 400 meter individual medley, 50 meter freestyle, 50 meter backstroke, 200m backstroke and 100m backstroke.
The Kalibo Sun Yat Sen School product Soguilon’s bronze medal came from the 100 meter butterfly. The Aklanon swimmer could have won another bronze but placed fourth in the 200 meter individual medley.
Also bagging gold medals in the penultimate day of the competition were Jerard Dominic Jacinto and Triza Haileyana Tabamo, who added three first place finishes each to their medal hauls.
Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh has won five gold medals, topping the girls’ 10-year 50m freestyle, 200m butterfly, 200m freestyle, 100m butterfly and 200m breaststroke during the first day of the competition.
This marks the PSL’s last competition this year following their successful campaigns in Tokyo, Japan last February and October; Perth, Australia last March; Hong Kong last April; and Singapore last August and September./PN
