MANILA – Jeron Teng has been selected as the top-overall pick by the AMA Online University Titans during the 2016 PBA Developmental League Draft on Tuesday at the PBA Café in Metrowalk, Pasig.
Titans head coach Mark Herrera said they are hoping the former De La Salle University Green Archers star will be the answer to the team’s offensive woes during the 2016 Foundation and Aspirants Cup.
“No doubt he is the best player in this year’s draft class,” Herrera said in an interview. “He will also be a morale boost for the team since he always gives his 101 percent every game.”
Teng was instrumental in the Green Archers’ title reign in the UAAP Season 79 men’s seniors basketball tournament, where he was named as the Finals MVP in their two-game sweep of the Ateneo Blue Eagles.
“I see him a role model in Philippine amateur basketball. A very humble player but very intense kapag maglaro siya,” Herrera said. “He is a leader and future PBA star and we hope na maging part kami ng basketball journey niya.”
Meanwhile, the Tanduay Rhum Masters has enlisted Jomari Sollano as the No. 2 pick, Racal Motors selected Jonjon Gabriel, as the Café France Bakers and Wangs Basketball went to Patrick Aquino and Gideon Babilonia, respectively.
Completing the first round of draftees are Jayson Grimaldo of Victoria Sports-Manuel L Quezon University, Davon Potts of Cignal HD-San Beda and Wilmar Anderson of University of Batangas.
Other notables selected are Jeepy Faundo, Mario Bonleon and Peejay Barua of the Titans; Jason Brickman, Monbert Arong and Paul Varilla of the Rhum Masters; Jamil Sheriff, Regie Basibas and Thomas Torres of Racal; Justin Arana of Wangs and Marvin Lee of Victoria./PN
