ILOILO City – It is that time of the year again: Pototan town will welcome more and more people as it opened its Iwag Festival on Dec. 16.
But more than the spectacular display of lights and being tagged as the Christmas capital of Western Visayas, Pototan’s annual lights fest helps in the town’s economy and tourism.
According to Pototan councilor and chairman of the Committee on Tourism Kenth Peñaflorida, the Iwag Festival has attracted more tourists in the past few years, thus, bringing more income to the town.
“Nakabulig sing dako sa ekonomiya kag turismo ang Iwag Festival sa Pototan,” Peñaflorida said. “Nakabulig sa mga magagmay nga negosyante ang food festival samtang ang mga hotels man sa banwa nga pwede tiniran kang mga bisita.”
According to Pototan mayor Thomas Penaflorida, “Iwag” is a Kinaray-a word which means “to light.”
“Christmas is the birth of Jesus Christ. He is the true light of the world,” he said./PN
