BACOLOD City – The Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) is on “Code White” alert status.
This means emergency service, nursing and administrative personnel in the hospital are all “on-call” for immediate mobilization, the Department of Health (DOH) said.
The alert status will be up from Dec. 21 to Jan. 5.
The CLMMRH is one of the sentinel hospitals in Western Visayas that provides data to the DOH under the agency’s Iwas Paputok campaign.
Dr. Julius Drilon, the chief of hospital, said they will hold an information campaign on the dangers of firecrackers and what to do in case of injuries.
He said the campaign will tap the press in the hope of increasing people’s awareness and, consequently, reducing firecracker-related injuries.
Drilon believes guidelines and measures in the manufacture and sale of firecrackers and pyrotechnics must be set.
“Based on experience, after all the noise, we have smoke and smog that lead to other health issues like respiratory ailments, while the injured suffer from tetanus,” he said.
Since 2010, cases of firecracker injuries reduced 24 percent nationwide due to the government’s intensive campaign, Drilon said. (PNA)
