BACOLOD City – Recent shooting incidents notwithstanding, this city remains a safe place, according to Mayor Evelio Leonardia.
Two separate shootings involving motorcycle-riding suspects transpired on Tuesday.
The shooting in Purok Sigay, Barangay 2 happened only minutes after the one in Purok Kabugwason, Barangay 28.
“I can always say that Bacolod is comparatively much safer than many other places in the Philippines,” stressed Leonardia.
Two people were killed while two others were injured during the 12:40 a.m. shooting in Barangay 28.
Chief Inspector Jovil Sedel, Police Station 6 head, identified the fatalities as Edwin Magbanua of Barangay Bagumbayan, Valladolid, Negros Occidental and Johnny Sisbrenio, 28, of Barangay Bug-ang, Toboso, Negros Occidental.
Ben Nabor and Allan Torrecarion, both of Barangay 28, sustained gunshot wounds.
The following were injured in the shooting that followed around 1 a.m. in Barangay 2: Franklin Dadivas, 55, of Barangay Estefania; Alfredo Mendoza, 30, of Barangay 1; and Harold Young, 47, Jose Sin Coja, 37, and Noel Diaz, 50, all of Barangay 2.
Still, Leonardia urged the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) to be always alert.
“Bad elements can come from anywhere,” the mayor stressed.
The shootings were “drug-related,” Leonardia said, citing information from BCPO director Senior Superintendent Flynn Dongbo.
