ILOILO City – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) recalled its orders deputizing agents in Region 6.
Newly-installed LTO-6 regional director Rolando Ramos issued a memorandum dated Jan. 20 recalling the orders, including temporary operators’ permits (TOP) and identification cards.
“In the exigency of service and pursuant to the assumption of the undersigned as new Regional Director of LTO Region 6, all issued deputation orders, TOPs and IDs are hereby recalled for audit purposes,” part of the memorandum read.
The memorandum further stated: “The same accountable materials and documents shall be re-issued upon evaluation of the Regional Deputation Evaluation Committee (RDEC).”
For now, only organic LTO operatives can confiscate drivers’ licenses and issue TOPs to violators of traffic rules and regulations.
The Office of the City Mayor received a copy of Ramos’ memo. LTO recently deputized 19 traffic aides of the city government.
City Administrator Hernando Galvez played down the recall. He said it was “normal” because LTO-6 has a new chief.
Ramos replaced LTO-6 officer-in-charge Dennis Singson who was moved to the traffic adjudication service of LTO’s central office.
Ramos officially assumed office on Jan. 17. He served as LTO chief of Bais City District in Negros Oriental before his Western Visayas appointment.
“His (Ramos) message to everyone at LTO-6 is to eradicate corruption in the regional office. We all know that LTO has a bad image. The new director wanted to clean LTO’s image,” said LTO-6 spokesperson Engr. Marlon Velez.
Aside from getting rid of corruption, Ramos also aims to make LTO-6 the most outstanding office again.
“We were cited as most outstanding office from 2009 to 2013, but we lost the title in 2014, 2015 and 2016,” said Velez. “He (Ramos) also wants to promote road safety and to improve the frontline services of LTO-6.” (With a report from the Philippine News Agency/PN)
