ILOILO City – Two police officers shot a drunken man in Barangy Poblacion, Laua-an, Antique.

According to Police Officer 1 Ralph Angelo Cruz and Police Officer 3 Roland Jungco, the 25-year-old Ricky Ido tried to kill them.

Ido died of gunshot wounds on his right side, buttocks and right foot.

The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 24, according to the Lauan police chief, Senior Inspector Rey Farren.

Cruz and Jungco responded to a call for assistance, said Farren. A drunken man was reportedly creating trouble in front of Eking Store in Barangay Poblacion.

Ido was armed with an eight-inch knife.

“Our men urged him to calm down and surrender his knife but he resisted,” said Farren.

Ido tried to stab Cruz several times but the cop dodged the thrusts. But the cop lost his balance, dropped on the ground and that was when Ido wounded him on the right arm, said Farren.

This forced Cruz to shoot Ido, said Farren. Jungco helped Cruz and also shot the drunken man.

The cops rushed Ido to the Bugasong Medicare Community Hospital where the drunken man died.

“Our men merely defended themselves. They did not have any intention to kill Ido,” stressed Farren.

Jungco and Cruz surrendered their firearms, .9mm pistols, to Farren./PN
