CEBU City – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 7 needs around 400 additional agents.

Regional Director Yogi Filemon Ruiz believes it will make the PDEA Region 7 more effective in the antidrug campaign.

“People are now expecting a lot from PDEA,” Ruiz said on Thursday.

Director General Ronald Dela Rosa, upon the order of President Rodrigo Duterte, suspended all antinarcotics police operations while the Philippine National Police (PNP) cleanses its ranks of rogue officers.

The PDEA is now leading the antidrug campaign.

Dela Rosa also disbanded the PNP Anti-Illegal Drugs Group after the abduction and killing of a South Korean businessman in Camp Crame.

But Ruiz said the PDEA regional office can go after only “high-value targets” because of its limited manpower.

Those who want to be a PDEA agent should be aged 21 to 35 years old; at least 5 feet, 2 inches tall for males and 5 feet for females; a bachelor’s degree holder; and eligible for Career Service Second Level Position, he said.

Qualified candidates will be trained at the PDEA Academy, Ruiz said.

“Anyone who wants to join us may visit us our office,” he said. (PNA)
