BACOLOD City – The city government seeks to address its problem on flooding on a long-term basis. Its P16-million comprehensive drainage master plan is up for bidding on March 17.
According to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bacolod District Engineer Abraham Villareal, the budget includes consultancy work and the preparation of the feasibility report that will cover both national and local roads.
The bidding will be conducted at the DPWH central office along with the same project for Balanga City in Bataan.
With a comprehensive drainage master plan, the city government can request for funds to address its flooding problem, said Villareal.
DPWH will hire experts who will calculate the cost or civil works activities that must be implemented, he added.
Aside from the drainage master plan, another project to be implemented by the DPWH in Bacolod is the P4.8-billion Bacolod Economic Highway (BEH).
Of the P4.8 billion project fund, P300 million will be used for payments to the affected landowners and for civil works.
In September, DPWH started negotiating with landowners who will be affected by the construction of the 24-kilometer highway.
DPWH then discussed the project with city officials and with the landowners to determine the exact area to be affected by the construction. It is expected to affect the properties of about 100 landowners.
The 24-kilometer BEH will cover areas across Barangays Sum-ag, Cabug, Felisa, Handumanan, Mansilingan, Estefania, Granada, Mandalagan, and Bata. (PNA)
