BACOLOD City – The Department of Agriculture (DA) in Negros Island Region (NIR) has a budgetary allocation of about P469 million for 2017.
Of the total amount, the P269 million will be sourced from the DA-Central Visayas or Region 7 while the P200 million will come from the DA-Western Visayas or Region 6.
Since the NIR still does not have a separate funding under the national budget, its regional line agencies still have to source their budgets from the previous regions of the two Negros provinces.
Negros Occidental was previously under Western Visayas while Negros Oriental was once part of Central Visayas.
DA-NIR office-in-charge Joyce Wendam said the three regions are working together to harmonize their funds and projects.
Wendam met with DA-6 director Remelyn Recoter and DA-7 sirector Salvador Diputado during a two-day harmonization meeting earlier last week.
She said the three DA regional field offices need to harmonize the implementing guidelines, releasing and expediting the utilization of funds, and implementation and delivery of services for NIR.
“For efficient delivery of services in the region, we have to harmonize our systems with that of Regions 6 and 7,” Wendam said.
She added that majority of the P469 million was allocated for food security programs, especially rice production, and other major crop production development initiatives.
Wendam further said the harmonization of initiatives does not only cover the budget disbursement and project implementation strategies, but also the reporting systems, bidding and procurement processes, and client satisfaction feedback of the three regions. (PNA)
