ILOILO – Iloilo and Antique provinces were set to benefit from the generating sets (gen sets) the state-run National Power Corp. (Napocor) has commissioned for Small Power Utilities Group plants in off-grid areas.

All 11 new generating sets have a total capacity of 3.3 megawatts.

A total of 18,000 households in 11 areas in Antique, Apayao, Cebu, Iloilo, Northern Samar, Romblon, Tawi-Tawi, and Western Samar will benefit from the generating sets, said Napocor president Ma. Gladys Cruz-Sta. Rita.

“These gen sets will ensure that the (beneficiary) areas will have more reliable power supply,” Sta. Rita said.

Fuel oil storage tanks ensure the availability of fuel in off-grid islands that are prone to inclement weather.

Napocor has been upgrading its services in the islands in the past three years. Aside from procuring the gen sets and installing the fuel oil storage tanks, it has also installed re-closers and fuel flow meters.

Re-closers are protective devices that can automatically close a breaker when line faults occur, while fuel flow meters measure a power plant’s fuel consumption. (PNA)
