KALIBO, Aklan – The organizer of the Ati-Atihan Festival will report on its income and expenditures.
The Kalibo Sto. Niño Ati-Atihan Foundation, Inc. (Kasafi) is required to disclose its finances 60 days after the festival.
Chairman Albert Menez said the volunteers will report at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16 at the Kasafi office. The public were encouraged to attend.
Kasafi has been writing financial reports since the local government entrusted it with organizing the annual event in 2010.
Copies of the report are being furnished to the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Bureau of Internal Revenue.
This year’s edition of the “mother of all Philippine festivals” was held from Jan. 6 to 15. Several religious and cultural activities in honor of Señor Santo Niño de Kalibo highlighted the weeklong festivity.
Among Kasafi’s expenses were subsidies to tribes and groups, festival materials, police assistance and security, pre-Ati-Atihan events, printing of souvenir program, task force kakas/vendors, and sidelight events such as the Mutya it Kalibo Ati-Atihan and the Kapuso Fiesta.
A bulk of its funds came from corporate sponsors, ticket sales from the Hala Bira Ati-Atihan Nights and the Mutya pageant and coronation night, advertisements in the souvenir program, and depot sales of drinks at the Magsaysay Park.
Many praised this year’s Ati-Atihan as one of the best, Menez said.
Hotels and pension houses were fully booked, street vendors and food lovers had a field day, while peace and order was maintained — all amid the occasional downpour. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
