BACOLOD City – One hundred twenty Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) enforcers will undergo a seminar-workshop for Land Transportation Office (LTO) deputation.
Sixty will start next week, while the other 60 might train the following week, according to Atty. Gaudioso Geduspan II, Legal Section chief and Law Enforcement Service deputy chief of the LTO Region 6.
Only those who will pass the practical and written examinations may be deputized, said Geduspan.
LTO-deputized traffic enforcers shall enforce Republic Act 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, and other traffic-related orders and policies, and the corresponding fines and penalties.
“[We want] to help decongest traffic in the city,” said Geduspan. “We hope to have more batches (of trainees).”
City Ordinance No. 09-16-790 grants all traffic officers/enforcers here the authority to confiscate the driver’s licenses of erring motorists after the issuance of citation tickets.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia prefers that all city traffic enforcers be deputized but acknowledged that “it cannot happen overnight.”
“One of the requirements is a college degree,” said the mayor. “Not all our traffic enforcers are college graduates.”
The BTAO currently has 428 traffic enforcers./PN
