CEBU City – Cebu was not included in the approved P1 provisional fare increase for jeepneys in Metro Manila and regions 3 and 4, a Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Region 7 official clarified.
Minimum jeepney fares in Metro Manila and regions 3 and 4 have been raised starting Wednesday. But in Cebu, the jeepney fare stays at P6.50, said Assistant Regional Director Reynaldo Elnar.
Elnar pointed out that the rate, which covers the first 5 kilometers and applies to the entire Central Visayas, never changed since February 2016. Jeepney drivers should follow this rate, he stressed.
Senior citizens and students may still avail themselves of the 20-percent discount, Elnar said.
Drivers were also reminded to give the exact change to the riding public and avoid overcharging.
Drivers and operators found guilty of overcharging will be fined P1,000 and P5,000, respectively, stated the Joint Administrative Order No. 2014-01. (PNA)
