BACOLOD City – A suspect in holding up and robbing lending company collectors was arrested in Barangay Calumangan, Bago City, Negros Occidental.
Police caught Almer Magapat, a resident of Barangay Pandanon, Murcia town, in a hot pursuit operation on Saturday. But his two companions escaped.
Three plastic packs of suspected shabu were also seized from one of the three pairs of short pants Magapat was wearing, said Superintendent David Cachumbo Jr., Bago City police chief.
A series of holdups and robberies targeting lending collectors prompted the police to patrol the hinterland area.
Four previous holdup incidents were reported in Barangay Ma-ao — the last one happened on Friday — with the suspects all able to escape.
On Saturday, the suspects also tried to flee, but an off-duty police officer, who was in a nearby rice mill, heard the suspects fired shots. He alerted his on-duty colleagues on patrol.
Magapat was detained. Police were still trying to identify his companions./PN
