ILOILO City – The city government through the Public Employment Service (PESO) and in partnership with the Iloilo Paraw Regatta Foundation, Inc. will hold the city’s first seafarers’ job fair from Feb. 16-17 at the Atria Metro Supermarket.
The job fair will feature a wide variety of seafaring employment agencies, many of which are actively recruiting crew and personnel.
According to PESO Iloilo manager Maria Elena Benitez, around 11 maritime recruitment companies are already confirmed to join the fair, though more are expected to participate.
Among the participating companies are Synergy Group Operations Inc., Magsaysay Maritime Corp., Orophil Shipping International Co. Inc., and the Philippine Transmarine Carriers Inc.
Benitez added that the participating companies are looking for certain types of personnel, most notably officers, engineers, cooks, electricians and ordinary seamen.
As for applicants, Benitez expects around a thousand potential seafarers to participate in the job fair.
“We’re happy that we tied up with the Paraw Regatta Foundation to give opportunities to the seafarers,” Benitez said. “I hope many will apply and will be given jobs.”/PN
