MANILA – Jeron Teng had a near-perfect send-off as he led the AMA Online Education to an 88-80 win against the Victoria Sports-MLQU on Tuesday in the 2017 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Teng, the top-overall pick in the recent PBA D-League draft, carried his side with 18 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists as the Titans bagged their fourth win in six games.
Juan Miguel Tiongson also made his mark, taking over in the fourth period as he unloaded 14 of his 22 points in the period, while also hauling down four boards for the Titans, which is nearing its first-ever post-season appearance.
It wasn’t an easy victory, however, for the Titans as it failed to hang on to a 20-point advantage, 57-37 in the third frame and seeing the gap cut down to as low as six, 86-80 with just 20.3 seconds left.
But the Titans had a timely lift from Tiongson as he made the game-clinching rally to secure the win for the Titans, which will not have Teng during its next assignment against the Blustar Detergent-Malaysian Dragons on Feb. 22.
The former De La Salle University Green Archers superstar has been loaned by the Titans to Mighty Sports-Philippines, which will compete in the 2017 Dubai Invitational Basketball Tournament from Feb. 17 to 25.
“Di naman kami totally umaasa kay Jeron. May iba pa rin namang players like Juami and Peejay Barua na kasa mag-contribute para sa amin,” said Titans head coach Mark Herrera.
Filipino-American Robbie Herndon topped winless Victoria Sports (0-4) with 24 points, 11 rebounds and six assists, while Aris Dionisio had 23 markers, 17 boards, and three blocks./PN
